About Joe Jarrell
A Sherlock Holmes expert as a child, I have enjoyed a strange and magical life. I've been an archery champion; a "Mr. Legs" contest runner-up; an award-winning artist; a documentary and experimental filmmaker; a music producer for a David Lynch/Mark Frost television show; a hair model; a legal clerk; a voice-over actor; and an expert in branding, ad copywriting, Web marketing, content strategy and information architecture. I'm very grateful to have been born into a supportive family, and to have lived in ten amazing cities in America and Europe. Visit Handbitten for an overview of my advertising and marketing skills.
About My Writing
I began as a freelance writer shortly after college because I did not find enough stimulating conversation within my music and film industry jobs in Los Angeles. I became Art Editor for a weekly paper, and a frequent contributor to regional and national art and lifestyle magazines.
While my current focus is primarily food and travel, I'm always up for an inspiring conversation. In 2004, I had a cover story interview with actor Michael Madsen, and interviewed chefs in San Francisco and New Orleans for Travel Savvy. I also became the primary celebrity interviewer for Shuz; and published feature music and film interviews in the Sunday Datebook section of the San Francisco Chronicle.
About My Goals
I would love to work for a few more editors of major magazines, newspapers, and custom publications for stylish brands. I deliver work on time, copyedited, and in the brand voice that speaks to each publication's particular audience.
I welcome a teaching opportunity in Northern California, or seminar instruction invitations elsewhere. I am working on three books, so literary agent introductions would also be timely.
About Reprint Rights
I am eager to see my writing included in books on a particular person, band, or destination. I am open to editors or publishers interested in licensing previously published interviews, or hiring me to contribute to a new project. If someone wants to link to one of my articles, an advance query is appreciated.
I must mention again, however, that taking any portion of my content for another website or publication of any size or in any language is illegal and punishable by law. I have both the energy and means to locate and prosecute thieves, on behalf of myself and other writers. Reprint fees aren't expensive, but lawyer fees and karmic retribution certainly are.
