Side Streets and Back
Alleys:
The 5th Annual Festival of Film Noir
Tilt
your fedora and take it on the chin with brass knuckles at the dark
delights curated by the noir authority and author Eddie Muller.
Featuring tight-lipped, pistol-packing swindlers, psychopaths, and
losers pushing their prey (and their luck) in a bleak, existential,
and shadowy world, these rarely seen gems still pack a brisk, contemporary
wallop 50 years after their creation. Guest appearances by legends
are the fest's hallmark, and this year they include actors Farley
Granger, Lizabeth Scott, Coleen Gray, and 93-year-old director Joseph
Newman. For a blistering, double-barreled blast Saturday, April
12, view Robert Aldrich's Kiss Me Deadly (the source for the golden-glow
briefcase in Pulp Fiction) and Nicholas Ray's On Dangerous Ground,
followed by a rare interview with A.I. Bezzarides, who penned both
wicked screenplays.
when: Fri 4.4 - Wed 4.16
where: The Egyptian Theatre (6712 Hollywood Blvd, 323.466.3455)
price: $9
